I guess by now readers might have all heard of the strange story of a prominent Washington NAACP leader who has been lying for years about being a black woman when in actual fact she is white.
37-year-old Rachel Dolezal, the President of the Spokane, Washington branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), reportedly disguised herself as a black woman when she applied for the post she currently occupies.
The interesting thing about this story is the fact that Rachel was exposed by her own parents Lawrence and Ruthanne Rachel, who said that they first heard about Rachel’s trickery in 2007 and are only speaking out today because a reporter contacted them to confirm their daughter’s true identity.
In exposing Rachel, her parents revealed to the world that Rachel cut them out of her life several years ago because she didn’t want people knowing her biological parents were white as that would ruin her disguise.
According to Rachel’s parents, Rachel started disguising herself as a black person after they adopted four African-American children, and when she was in college, she started heavily immersing herself in African-American culture.
Not long after her own parents exposed her true identity, an image of her as a white child confirmed even further her true identity as a white woman.
It’s worth noting that when a reporter from KXLY confronted Rachel with the allegations and asked her this question: “Are you African-American?”, Rachel replied that she didn’t understand the question.
