How do pimples come about?

Pimples occur when the sebaceous glands (oil glands) get infected with bacteria and swell up with pus. Pimples will often occur on your face, neck, shoulder, and back. Pimples tend to appear more on the face than on any other part of the body.

The simplest and most effective home remedies for pimples

Now that we have seen how pimples develop, let us turn our attention to the most important part of this article – how to get rid of pimples fast and how to reduce your chances of getting pimples.

Dermatologists everywhere agree that you can treat your pimples and reduce your risks of developing pimples by taking note of the following important things:

Watch what you eat

Not too many people are aware of the fact that their pimples come as a result of the food they eat. It might come to you as a surprise that the food that you eat might just be the reason you end up with those unsightly spots all over your face, but it is absolutely true.

According to scientists, eating high glycemic index (GI) foods and dairy products increases a person’s risk of developing pimples. Any food that is produced from the milk of mammals is a dairy product. Some examples of high GI foods are: soft drinks, beer, cake, and most commercial cereals.

A couple of years ago, scientists from the New York University revealed that eating high GI foods and drinking milk can aggravate pimples and trigger them too.

Milk is capable of worsening pimples or making a person develop them simply because of the natural hormones it contains. GI foods also play their role in aggravating pimples by triggering hormonal fluctuations.

In 2007, researchers from the Harvard School of Public Health also revealed that people who regularly drank a lot of milk tend to suffer more from serious acne problems than people who didn’t drink milk frequently.

Stop touching your face!

One of the worst things you can do when you have pimples is to constantly use your hands to touch your face. I really don’t know why we seem to be so addicted to putting our hands on our face. Many of us can’t just seem to keep our hands off our face. It is a fact that the average person can’t go for a minute without touching his or her face. But the problem with frequently touching your face with your hands is the fact that it worsens your pimple problem. Every day, the hands come into contact with millions of germs. The more you touch your face with your hands, the more germs and dirt that you introduce to your face. You should know that germs not only contribute towards the formation of pimples but they also aggravate it. This is the reason why it is imperative that you keep your hands away from your face. While keeping your hands away from your face isn’t an easy thing to do if you are addicted to touching your face, if you really want to get rid of pimples fast, you must learn to stop touching your face with your hands right now.

Wash your face

You have just been told that germs contribute towards pimples and worsen them. As you move about performing you everyday activities, you expose your face to millions of bacteria. This is even worse if you are one who can’t keep your hands away from your face. From the paragraph above, you got to know that the more you touch your face with your hands, the more germs you introduce to your face and the more you aggravate your pimple problem. This problem can be mitigated if you of course stop touching your face and gently wash your face twice every day with a mild soap and warm water. Washing your face twice a day will help in reducing two things that worsen pimples – dirt and excess oil.

While washing your face is very good in the treatment of pimples, you should know that washing your face too much can be counterproductive since it can cause you to produce more oil on the face, thereby making your face more pimple-prone and making your pimples worse. This is the reason why dermatologists advise us to wash the face just twice every day.

Never burst your pimples

Sometimes it can be really tempting to burst your pimples. But you should know that popping or bursting your pimples is one of the worst things you can do when you have pimples. Not only can it cause you a severe a headache, but popping pimples can easily worsen the skin infection and delay the healing process. Also, the more you pop or burst your pimples, the more likely you are to suffer from permanent scars.

Watch the makeup that you wear

This one is for the ladies. Whenever you are wearing a makeup, make sure that the makeup doesn’t contain oil. Makeup that contains oil can easily worsen the skin infection. Also make sure that that the makeup that you wear is labeled “nonceomedogenic” or “nonacnegenic”.

Last but not least, never go to bed wearing makeup simply because it will worsen your condition.

Conclusion

There are several other things that you can do at home to get rid of pimples such as using ice, lemon, toothpaste, etc but the above are the best things that you can do to treat your pimples and reduce your likelihood of developing them.

Always remember that in your attempt to get rid of pimples fast, never pick at your pimples or try to burst them since that will end up causing more inflammation and worsening your condition. As tempting as it may be to burst your pimples, try to resist the temptation for your own good!
